UPDATE: 2025 Spring Dates released!
Check your Ego at the Door!
The “High Performance Class”, is our most advanced program. This class is geared towards racers & ambitious fondo riders who train exclusively with power meters (this is mandatory for entry into this class).
We now offer a ladies only category in addition to our mixed program. This program has developed some of Velosophy’s strongest athletes and successes podiuming at spring series, local crit races and several top tens overall in the Whistler Fondo (and even a winner of the Whistler Fondo Forte in 2022).
You can expect a progressive program with a mix of threshold intensity, VO2, HIIT & SIT intervals using an array of climbs from long and steady to steep ‘n punchy or occasionally rolling terrain. This class requires power meters to accurately hit specific power targets in our structured workouts. There’s no ‘chasing the squirrels’ in this class, leave your ego at the door, we’re about accuracy & efficiency!
Class includes Training Peaks (TP) support (example below). After registration we send you instructions on how to create a free Training Peaks account along with a coaches link to connects us, allowing you coach to send you customized weekly workouts. This service also means that if you miss class (or it’s cancelled for unforeseen reasons) you still have a workout in TP ready to load into Zwift, Trainer Road or to your head unit so you can conduct your workout inside or out, at your leisure. You’ll never miss a workout unless you personally choose to. Even our smaller class package gives you ALL the TP workouts in the series, so you can keep up with the crew when you’re away or just know what they’re up to that week.
NEW FOR 2025: If you like the sound of the program but either prefer training solo or the time/day just don’t work for you then, using Training Peaks, we can upload the classes for each weeks class in the series for you conduct at your leisure outdoors or on an indoor trainer. Note: you will need a power meter, Training Peaks and get an FTP test done before th e1st workout (we can chat with you on how to do that if it’s new to you).
Example Training Peaks activity:
Despite the structure, expect a group of motivated fun loving characters to share your time with. We cover a lot of ground during the package exposing you to unique climbs around Locarno, UBC and West Van (eg, British Properties occasionally Grouse ). Meeting spots change weekly but are generally in the UBC area, we also use Stanley Park for occasional West Van rides. And of course, coffee! For those who don’t have to rush to work, we like to share stories of victory & defeat over a hot cuppa & a well earned treat.
PREREQUISITES:
You must race/be competitive fondo rider, ie:
Have done a Whistler Fondo in 4hrs 30 or quicker, or
Race Cat 4/5 through to Cat 1, or
Be vetted by someone who races those categories
We understand this program starts in spring and you may not be at this level currently after a lengthy winter but if you would have met any requirements above during last season then this will suffice - it’s OUR job to take you as you are and make you strong!
You must have a power meter
This is NOT ‘predicted power’ from Strava, it is a device on your bike that transmits the force you apply to the pedals in Watts (W) to your head-unit (bike computer-Garmin/Wahoo/Karoo) and displays it in realtime while you ride.
You must know your FTP
If you have not done one in the last 6 weeks (or ever) then have one completed before class one (we will send instructions to all registered riders). All workouts are scaled by %’s of each YOUR personal FTP allowing us to customize every workout to each rider. So, your FTP needs to be current and accurate. If you are still using an FTP result from last season or longer than 6 weeks ago then it’s highly probable its no longer accurate/relevant & you will not be getting the most out the program until you re-test.
